What is the idea?

Simple, copy the success of 'The Million Dollar Homepage" and put the money to a good, humanitarian use.

Back in 2005 a young Brit by the name of Alex Tew came up with a novel way of paying for his education. Sell 1,000,000 pixels on his home page for a $1 each. He reached his goal in under six months. You can read the whole story on Wikipedia. Copycats quickly followed but they weren't nearly as successful. They lacked the novelty of the original idea and offered advertisers very little incentive.

So why do we feel like it will work this time? Support for our nation's troops has never been higher. This site isn't just about putting ourselves throught school or stuffing our pockets with cash. It's about doing something good for the people who have sacrificed the most for our country. As the current economic situation get worse and worse, our soldiers and their families suffer economically on top of everything else that they have given to their country. If we can fill all 6 pages, we will have raised $6 Million for a great cause!

So, we invite everyone to buy tiles on our site in support of our nation's heroes - available in 100-pixel 'blocks' (each measuring 10x10 pixels). Our "dedication walls" are divided into 10,000 of these tiles (1,000,000 pixels in total). The reason for selling them in 100-pixel blocks is because anything smaller would be too small to display anything useful or meaningful.

Buy as many tiles as you like. If you can't afford one on your own, consider a group donation. And, we hightly encourage corporate donations and matching. When you buy your tiles, you can upload a small image of your choice in the space you have purchased, as long as it complies with our terms of use. In additiona, each ad includes a block of text and a larger image that will pop-up when visitors roll over your ad. You can also have the image click through to your own website or facebook page. The tiles you buy will be displayed on the homepage for at least 5 years.

Once we reach our first $100,000, we will begin writing checks to our selected charities. Our ultimate goal is to raise $6,000,000 by July 4, 2009. If for any reason we don't achieve that goal, we will try to raise the full amount by November 11, 2009. We will set up a page with a list of the dates and amounts of each donation we make.

Who are you?

HeroDedications.com was started by two of the founders of Boldface Creative (http://www.boldfaceinc.com) - Matt Krabbenhoft and Michael Warren, both from Austin, TX. We're just two guys who have been really frustrated with the war in Iraq and concerned about the plight of our soldiers and their families as the war continues. Neither of us has ever had the privilege to serve and if we can put our talents to good use here at home, we have no excuse to sit and do nothing.

About Boldface Creative

Boldface Creative (http://www.boldfaceinc.com) was founded in Austin, Texas in 2002. The original name of the company was Fat Hat Design, Inc. The name was changed in 2009 to reflect our expanded list of services. The company is incorporated as an S-corp in the state of Texas as Fat Hat Design, Inc. and has registered with the Travis County Clerk to do business as Boldface Creative. Boldface Creative is a privately owned company. Originally founded as a graphic and web development company, Boldface has expanded its services to include marketing and creative services in support of small businesses.

Boldface Creative has been in business for over 7 years. The company routinely gives to the Austin Council of the Blind, the Travis County Sheriff's Posse, the Shrine Circus, and we do pro bono work for StrataTX and the Texas Airdale Rescue Team. Feel free to contact the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (http://www.window.state.tx.us) to verify our status.

Is this for real?

Absolutely. This is a corporate fund-raising campaign to benefit charities that provide additional benefits and support for our nation's service men and women and their families. Boldface Creative has taken part in charitable giving since it was founded in 2002. In the past, we have given directly from our own pockets to our selected organzations. However, as economic situations have changed, we felt the need to try to increase our charitable giving in 2009. HeroDedications.com is our effort to do just that. See below or information on this fund raising campaign and the charities we are raising money for. Please feel free to contact them about this fund raiser.

What will you do with the money?

All donations from this fund-raising campaign will go to one or more of the following charities (subject to change at our discretion):

A portion of each donation will cover the expenses of hosting and maintaining the site, transaction processing, administrative expenses and marketing. At least 70% of each donation will go directly to each charity listed above and ALL funds will be distributed. In an attempt to offset our overhead costs, we have implemented Google Adsense. If our overhead can be reduced with advertising, we will of course pass on a larger percent of donations to our charities.

Please feel free to check up on us before making your donation. You may contact each charity at the information below:

Why is my donation not tax deductible?

Only donations to a non-profit organization are tax deductible. When you donate to HeroDedications.com, you are donating to a corporate fundraiser. HeroDedications.com will collect all donations and make equal donations to each of our chosen charities (list subject to change at our discretion). At this time, maintaining non-profit status is not a cost effective use of our administrative costs. HeroDedications would rather give the $2,000-$4,000 in accountant fees to the charity instead.

Why should I buy your tiles?

You could give your donation directly to the charity of your choice. However, by buying decidation tiles on our site you get a public dedication to the service man or woman of your choice and public acknowledgement of your appreciation for their service. You can send the link to them or to friends and to let everyone know that you support our troops. Your dedication can potentially be seen by millions of people over the coming years. And best of all, our site allows you to help the families of those who have helped make this country safe. The site will be online for at least 5 years - guaranteed.

Why can't I buy one single pixel?

One pixel is too small to see and too small for anyone to be able to click on - at least not easily. To make it easier to see and find dedications, we have set up our site to only accept a minimum order of a 10x10 tile = $100. If you would still like to make a dedication, but would like to donate less, please consider making a group dedication or sending your donation directly to one of our sponsoring charities.

How long will the site be online?

The site will be online for at least 5 years. When all dedication space is used, we will make posters and t-shirts avaialble for purchase through Cafe Press.
